JCT's New
Nursing School -
One of JCT's latest projects is the
establishment of a School of Nursing within
Machon Tal – JCT's Institute for
Women. Over the last few years, the field
of nursing has taken a turn towards
academization. Whereas initially, nursing –
as a caring profession, trained nurses to
become certified nurses, the Ministry of
Health has decided that an academic degree
is mandatory. This change has caused
Sha'arei Zedek to close their Nursing School
at the end of this academic year. The
Council of Higher Education has approached
JCT to form an academic Nursing
School for the student population served by
Sha'arei Zedek.
In response,
JCT
is planning to fill this niche and it is our
hope to open up an academic program for
the training of nurses in the next academic
year, starting September 2007. We are
cooperating with Sha'are Zedek to build a
top quality program at Machon Tal. In
order to provide such a program, Machon
Tal will need to open new laboratories for
chemistry, purchase state-of-the art
equipment and teaching aids, such as medical
equipment, anatomy maps, specialized
software, skeletons, etc, as well as to
establish a specialized medical library
complete with reference books, up-to-date
periodicals and journals – both hard copies
and on-line.
This is a major strategic step for JCT
into the field of health. We look to our
American Friends for assistance in this
important undertaking.
